A monograph on insurance law authored over five years by Mr. Zheng Liang of Shanghai Horizon Law Firm with the assistance of several colleagues, Insurer's Subrogation under Mainland Chinese Law (Traditional Chinese edition, ASIN: BOHBTTSP9M), has recently been published by Amazon KDP. The book systematically examines the legal foundations and practical framework of insurer subrogation in mainland China.
Written with a strong practical focus, the book covers ten major modules: the rationale of subrogation, acquisition and exercise of subrogation rights, types of claims, jurisdiction, limitation periods and parties, determination of recovery amounts, the insured's duty to assist, third-party defences, subrogation rules for special scenarios, and a practical toolkit. It also includes indexes of current rules and representative cases and practical tools T01–T18, providing directly usable guidance for insurance company legal teams, claims professionals and practising lawyers.
An English edition, Insurer's Subrogation: Under the Laws of the People's Republic of China, and a Simplified Chinese edition, Handbook of Insurer Subrogation, are also expected to be released by professional legal publishers for a wider domestic and international readership.
Mr. Zheng began practising insurance law in 2004. He previously worked at several major Chinese insurers in underwriting, claims, recovery and litigation management before returning to private practice more than a decade ago. He has long focused on insurance and marine insurance law.
Insurance and marine insurance have long been leading practice areas of Horizon Law Firm. In recent years, Horizon's insurance team has achieved strong results in a series of major and complex appellate and retrial matters, with several cases selected as representative cases by the Supreme People's Court and the Shanghai Financial Court. Insurer's Subrogation under Mainland Chinese Law reflects the team's accumulated case experience and collective expertise, and its publication is an important expression of that professional tradition.
