Biography
Siyuan Zheng is a PRC-qualified lawyer, Senior Partner of Shanghai Horizon Law Firm, head of the firm's Internet and E-commerce Legal Services Team, and a council member and legal adviser of the Shanghai Online Shopping Association.
Mr. Zheng began full-time legal practice at Shanghai Junle Law Firm in July 2016 and transferred to Shanghai Rolmax Law Firm in 2017. He joined Shanghai Horizon Law Firm in March 2020 and serves as head of the firm's Internet and E-commerce Legal Services Team.
His principal areas of practice include the internet, e-commerce, intellectual property, logistics, insurance, corporate legal services, and related civil and commercial litigation and criminal matters.
Mr. Zheng leads Horizon's Internet and E-commerce Legal Services Team in its ongoing representation of clients in matters involving major e-commerce platforms, including Pinduoduo, Taotian, JD.com, Douyin Store, Ocean Engine's Qianchuan platform, Kuaishou, Xiaohongshu, Weidian, WeChat Store and Meituan. The team has helped numerous e-commerce operators and practitioners recover substantial losses. He has also handled many livestreaming-related disputes, employment disputes and intellectual property disputes for MCN agencies, online influencers and related brands, accumulating extensive successful case experience in the internet and e-commerce sector.
One of Mr. Zheng's representative matters was Xu v. Shanghai Xunmeng Information Technology Co., Ltd., a network service contract dispute, first-instance case no. (2021) Hu 0105 Min Chu 2659. In that case, Shanghai Xunmeng Information Technology Co., Ltd., the operator of Pinduoduo, deducted RMB 675,249.93 from the merchant's account on the ground of a Class A description inconsistency. Following first-instance proceedings before the Changning District People's Court, a second-instance appeal before the Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court, and retrial proceedings before the Shanghai High People's Court, the merchant Xu prevailed at every stage and recovered the full amount.
Mr. Zheng also regularly shares legal knowledge relating to e-commerce through his Douyin account and provides pro bono e-commerce legal consultations.
